Jewelry - 2007 Oscar Earrings, The All Important Item Of Jewelry
May 14, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
Why are earrings the most important item of jewelry? By important I mean the piece of jewelry that will do the most for your appearance. As with all jewelry it should blend with your overall attraction. You don’t want the first comment to be about your great jewelry and then you come in second. Your overall look is what needs to be fabulous, then after the comments of how stunning you look, they can notice your cool jewelry. Later we will look at what style of earrings the stars wore to the Oscars.
Earrings are what frames your face, along with hair, if the colour and style of your earrings are right they will be like two spotlights adding a glow to your face, making it brighter and more alive. Earrings with a decoration on the front of the post, covering the pierced hole, has the reflected light starting from the right point. Earrings with a shepherd hook usually start from a lower aspect and part of the effect can be lost. Also with the shepherd hook if the earring is heavy it shows up the drag on the lobe, these earrings are probably better suited for lighter more casual wear.
Looking at the Oscars 2007. On the Red Carpet almost all of the earrings that the stars wore were decorated from the front of the post, very few were shepherd hook earrings. Most earrings at the Oscars were quite elaborate but not overly so. Some like Nicole Kidman only wore tiny studs. I only saw one star, where the first thing that stood out was her jewelry, the rest were very tasteful.
More Earrings from the Oscars 2007
Cate Blanchett - black stone on the lobe with a larger stone dropped from the first
Emily Blunt - Stud earrings
Gwyneth Paltrow - Stone on the lobe with a large elaborate diamond shaped drop

Choose your Metals Carefully When Buying Jewellery
May 12, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
The feeling of wearing exquisite jewellery is, for many, second to none - after all, a great piece of jewellery doesn’t have the same rigid time scale on it as a fashionable dress or a trendy pair of shoes. But choosing jewellery can be a time consuming process, especially if you’re trying to find a special necklace or bracelet for someone you care about. But buying jewellery doesn’t have to be difficult; instead, if you focus on some key guidelines when making your choice you’ll be able to find the perfect item of jewellery in no time.
Regardless of whether you’re looking for earrings, bangles or rings, it’s crucial to choose the right metal when buying jewellery and establish what your budget is. For instance, platinum is the most expensive type of metal you can buy, while nine carat gold will be more affordable than 18 carat gold if you’re looking for gold jewellery.
Additionally, you’ll need to consider the personal taste and skin type of the person you’re buying for. Not everyone likes yellow gold, while for others it might be all they consider when picking jewellery for themselves. Make sure you know what type of metal you’re buying, and if you’re not sure of the properties of a particular metal, ask someone who knows.
Choosing the right type of gold, for example, can be tricky. Gold can make a great finishing touch to an outfit, but make sure you don’t go overboard. Pure gold is yellow and can look overpowering if worn in large quantities; opt for delicate yellow gold hoops - a piece of jewellery worn frequently by Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, to finish off a an outfit with an air of casual grace. Or, if you’re looking for a larger piece of gold jewellery, opt for white or rose gold which tends to be more subtle in tone and often appeals to people who are reluctant to don flashier yellow gold items.
Conversely, if the person you’re buying jewellery for prefers to stay away from gold altogether, opt for an alternative precious metal like silver, platinum or tungsten, now widely used in all types of jewellery including earrings and neckalces. Platinum is becoming increasingly popular as a jewellery metal, with the likes of Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Hudson sporting platinum jewellery pieces at this year’s Academy Awards.
Tungsten is also a rising star among the world’s top jewellery designers, especially when it comes to men’s jewellery. Tungsten rings are fast gaining currency with fashion-conscious men eager to set the trend - so if you’re looking for jewellery for men, then tungsten is likely the best way to go. In fact, tungsten jewellery has received support from the likes of actors Kiefer Sutherland and Gary Sinise, while watch manufacturers like TAG Heuer and Baume et Mercier have been using tungsten in watches for years.
Another lesson that’s essential to remember in any jewellery buying spree is to check the hallmark of the jewellery you’ve decided to buy. Particularly when purchasing gold jewellery, ensure that you check and understand the hallmark of the piece on question. A hallmark is a quality control mark that’s placed on gold, silver and platinum and guarantees that the metal a consumer is about to buy lives up to legal standards.
Moreover, hallmark symbols allow you to identify quickly the carat of your jewellery, as well as its purity levels. And once you’ve approved the standards of the metal you’ve chosen, and the style of the piece of jewellery, there’s only one thing left to do - make your purchase!

Reality Tv Stars - What Happens When The Show Ends?
April 1, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
Reality TV is more than just a passing craze. After the first episodes of Survivor in 2000, it was pretty clear that reality TV is here to stay. Sometimes, going on a reality show propels contestants to success, even if they don’t win their show. Elisabeth Hasselbeck went from Survivor to hosting The View and Jennifer Hudson lost American Idol but won an Oscar for her role in Dreamgirls. But not everyone is equipped to handle their newfound stardom.
Loss of Privacy
Going on a reality TV show propels contestants into the spotlight. Many people feel like they know the contestants on a reality show, even though they have never met. It’s pretty easy to understand this phenomenon - you are welcoming these people into your home each week, and they way that most reality shows are shot make it seem like contestants are speaking directly to you. But when contestants go home, many of them are unable to return to their normal lives. Contestants are often stopped in the course of their day to day activities, sometimes for an autograph or picture, other times to be told just what they thought of their game play. It’s hard for most contestants to have this lack of anonymity, especially those who felt that they weren’t portrayed favorably on their show.
Family and Relationships
Going on a reality TV show can have an unexpected impact on the family and relationships of contestants. Some family members of contestants have reported that they have been approached by fans, usually to complain about the actions of their son or daughter. A reality show can also put an enormous amount of strain on a relationship. Most reality TV shows are shot over the course of several months, during which contestants are isolated from family and friends. That, in itself, can be difficult for a relationship. But sometimes the most stressful part is the action of the contestants on the show. There have been instances where a contestant has cheated on their significant other while on a show, and others who were simply horrified at how their partner played the game.
Jobs
There have been many contestants whose jobs have been impacted by going on a reality TV show. A show like The Apprentice may highlight reasons to hire someone. But when you are shown on a show as lying and cheating, employers notice and are not as quick to hire you. Many times contestants on reality TV shows list “model” or “bartender” as their occupation, as they are professions most able to take 2-3 months off of work without being asked questions. But contestants who are lawyers or doctors find it hard to go back to their practices; many lawyers are no longer actively practicing law.
There haven’t been many studies done on the long-term impact of being on a reality TV show. But the articles that have been written show most need continued support from a mental health professional. And for most part, this is not a consequence that any of them consider.

Grey’s Anatomy Star Named "most Fascinating"
March 28, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
Barbara Walters hosts an ABC special during year-ends to recognize the most fascinating people of the year. This year, Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2007 will be an hour-long tribute to the individuals who have made their mark in history, in the year 2007. These people include Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Hudson, and Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl. The special will also be featuring two surprise guests.
This year, Heigl grabbed the spotlight with her box office hit movie with Seth Rogan, Knocked Up, which also received critical acclaim. She also bagged the 2007 Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Dr. Izzie Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy. Moreover, she is engaged to singer/songwriter Josh Kelley, whom she is to wed next month, right before Christmas.
Katherine Heigl has definitely caught everyone’s attention with her outspoken nature. During the Isaiah issue, she liberally answered anyone’s questions, placing her opinion in the forefront of her statements. She criticized Washington for his inappropriate behavior and praised her best friend, T.R. Knight for handling the situation well. Unlike her co-stars who gave vague answers, Heigl was as blunt as she could get.
Moreover, during the 2007 Emmys, her name was mispronounced in the announcement of her victory, and they had to bleep out her reaction after she swore. Heigl just isn’t afraid of being herself, and that’s enough for Barbara Walters to name her as one of the most admirable personalities of the year.
Aside from Katherine Heigl, Barbara Walters will also have Victoria and David Beckham, former President Bill Clinton, and the masterminds behind MySpace, Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe on the ABC special. Last year, another Grey’s Anatomy star, Patrick Dempsey, made it to the list of the most fascinating people of 2006.

Top Ten Oscar Nominees Who Got Their Start on TV
February 23, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
TV has always been a popular stepping stone on the way to Hollywood stardom. The film industry will always look upon television as the minor leagues, so to speak, a place where talent is harvested, personas invented. As such, the fact that so many Oscar nominees this year got their start in TV is not a surprise. Most acting nominations seemed to come from either former American television actors or foreign actors. This makes the film industry even more like the major leagues. It just plucks t he best talent from around the world and makes it their own.
Sitcom stars are even becoming stars. Former singers are becoming stars. It’s an incredible thing. Look at the story of Jennifer Hudson. Jennifer Hudson was a no-name, a contestant on the fourth season of American Idol. She was a great singer, but wasn’t beautiful and was overweight. Though some believe that she should’ve made it further in the competition, she was eliminated and most assumed that we had seen the last of her. However, Bill Condon gave her the part of a lifetime in the film Dreamgirls as the interminable Effie. The film, a musical, suited Hudson perfectly and, now, barely a year after being a nobody, Hudson is an Oscar nominee.
Will Smith and Eddie Murphy are first time nominees, who got their starts performing comedy on TV. It’s a very incredible phenomenon and one that exist for a long time coming. I don’t doubt that TV will forever be a source of wonderful talent.

From Zero to Hero

If you decide to quit, give up and accept failure when trying to reach a particular goal, the consequences could affect millions of people around the world.
Many people have fulfilled their own dreams, and successfully changed and improved lives of others by providing everything from encouragement, motivation, business developments, leadership, direction, entertainment, heritage, employment and much more.
Major benefits and advancements never would have happened if these determined persistent committed people were not able to endure the tremendous amount of failure, rejection and countless obstacles they had to overcome. Here are just a few people.
Abraham Lincoln’s business failed. He lost in elections when he ran for legislature, congress and the senate. He also lost the vice presidential nomination. He could not afford Law School, so he taught himself and became a lawyer. He was the sixteenth president of the United States. To this day he is still considered to be one of the most popular and most successful of all the presidents.
Michael Jordan did not make his high school varsity basketball team the first year he tried out. He went on to win two Olympic gold medals in basketball. He has NBA Most Valuable Player titles and he led his team to six basketball World Championships.
J. K. Rowlings submitted her first Harry Potter book to several publishers and they kept rejecting it. The Harry Potter books and movies have become one of the most successful children series ever. J. K. Rowlings went from welfare to multimillionaire.
Alex Haley went to the National Archives in Washington D.C. searching through thousands of documents and endless rolls of microfilm trying to research his family history to verify the stories his ancestors told. For the longest time, he found absolutely nothing. When he finally found the needle in the haystack, it all paid off. People all over the world were glued to their television sets for an entire week watching Roots. It broke all kinds of television broadcasting records.
Sherwood Schwartz kept getting rejected by television networks to put on his shows Gilligan’s Island and the Brady Bunch. Both of these shows were so successful that they have been in prime time and reruns for about forty years.
Mrs. Debbie Fields was nineteen years old with no prior business experience
when she was turned down by every bank in Oakland, California that she tried to get a loan to start one cookie store. Later she became the founder and owner of her own cookie company with branches all over the world. She was a millionaire before her thirtieth birthday.
Bill Gates wrote his first software program when he was thirteen years old. As a teenager he then wrote the software for his Traf-O-Data computer and tried to sell it. Nobody wanted the machine. Instead of trying to sell hardware, Gates and his partner Paul Allen decided to write software. Gates sent numerous letters from his college dorm room to all the big computer companies offering to write their software. Nobody was interested. Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard University, started the Microsoft Corporation and eventually became the richest person in the world.
Bessie Coleman could not get into any Pilot school in the United States. She went to France, got her pilot’s license, and returned to the USA. She was the first black female American airplane pilot.
Madonna was living in the streets and eating out of trash cans while trying to get into show business. She kept getting rejections. Now she is one of the top female performers and recording artists ever. She has won numerous awards.
Oprah Winfrey loss her broadcasting job then went on to become a billionaire and hosting one of the most popular talk shows in the world.
Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with cancer which made it unlikely that he would be able to compete in cycling. After that he won seven first place titles riding his bicycle in the Tour de France, which is considered to be one of the most difficult and most challenging athletic competitions in the world.

Jennifer Hudson lost when she competed on American Idol. She went on to win an Academy Award in her first movie for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Effie in Dreamgirls.
The list can go on and on. It is easy to look backwards into the past because hindsight is 20-20 vision. Looking at the present objectively with an open mind and believing the potential of possibilities for the future is much more difficult. However, it also could be more rewarding for everybody.

Reality Tv: Actors Get Your 15 Minutes of Fame!
January 29, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
Reality TV is now a mainstay in our lives. It also just happens to be the best way for actors to get their start in Hollywood.
Many of the participants in reality TV shows are simply actors trying to get some air time. Though not all of these upcoming actors receive fame and fortune by appearing in reality shows, they all do receive some general recognition at the very least.
Those most likely to reach stardom from reality shows are participants in talent searches such as American Idol – Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson being a great example. These might not seem like the type of contests that actors would get started in, but because being an actor involves more than just looking good on camera, focusing on just one facet of your talent is a great way to set you apart from the crowd.
So if you’re serious about getting started in Reality TV, you need to first get yourself set up for the auditions.
You already know who the big names are – the major networks, Fox, ABC, NBC, and CBS – so pick the shows you would love to be on! Just make sure you have what it takes to be a major contestant, so if you can’t swim, skip Survivor, and if you can’t sing, don’t try American Idol, it’s not worth it.
Casting agents for the biggest network show post their reality show casting at selected online talent sites like New Faces Models and Talent at www.newfaces.com Because New Faces gets the information directly from the network casting agents and sites, the castings are always on NewFaces.com first. And you don’t have to go to a different source for each type of casting, New Faces brings together all the different genres in one place and has all the details on how and where to apply.
Many of these shows will allow for applicants to send in pictures or videos for consideration. Most reality shows will require applicants to fill out a detailed application before they can be considered. Some may also subject applicants to physical or mental tests during reality TV show auditions. For example, you can’t get on Survivor without these physical tests.
Once you get past the application process and make it into a reality show, be ready for a great deal of television exposure, which might just put you on the A-list.
