A Business Tip That is Sure to Help You Grow
July 2, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
I remember way back when, at a time when the only worry I had in life was whether or not we were going to have that surprise quiz in class tomorrow. Ah the days of yester year that has drifted away.
Of course I am talking about back when I was just a young student in grade school. The days, although they seemed to take forever to finish, were a lot shorter, and I stress a lot, then they are today.
One of the things I enjoyed when I was a young child was the collecting of baseball cards. Once in a while I would go to a card show with my dad, but for me it was the thrill of opening that pack of Topps, Donruss or Fleer to see if I was able to snag the hottest superstars. Nothing, at that time, seemed more exciting then when you opened your pack, and boom, there was a Pete Rose, a Mike Schmidt or a Reggie Jackson just staring you back in the face.
About towards the end of my collecting career, a national chain of convenient stores were putting special edition baseball collector coins on the bottom (underneath the cup) of their signature frozen drinks. At that time collecting was very popular and I can see now why they would do this. It created a means to sell more of their product.
However, beyond that little tip for your business, these coins were limited edition collector’s items. In other words they would only be around for so long and only so many of them were printed.
This brings me to the business topic of the day. Do some of the products you sell or services you offer for your business, include a special limited edition offer? If you sell widgets, are some of them special edition? This will help create a buzz around your business and what you are trying to sell.
If you are a service oriented business, try offering additional services for a limited time. For example if you hang drywall for a living, throw in a free coat of primer if they get drywall work done within the next month. The possibilities of using this type of technique are endless. Sit down and think for a moment how you can incorporate it into your line of work. Chances are you can, and in fact you really should.
I know in our business we offer, from time to time, special discounts on premier services, and certain upgrades. We do this on occasion and it works well for us. I have also talked to some friends of mine who use this same technique for their own businesses or companies that they work for. It is a great technique and it really works.
Start your limited edition program for your business and you are sure to be on your way to generating sales you may not have thought would be there.
I wonder what happed to all those baseball cards I bought back in the day.

The Dangers of Plastic Surgery
July 1, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
Many people would like to undergo plastic surgery but are not doing so because they are afraid of its results in case something goes wrong. Maybe, if they look at the famous people who have failed to make plastic surgery work for their benefit, they will see that they should really be afraid of it. Here you can find a short list of those famous people who have undergone awful plastic surgery and have not got any better because of it, if not worse.
The first one is of course Michael Jackson. He deserves to top the list of the least successful plastic surgery cases. As he has undergone the whole series of surgical procedures, Jackson can almost certainly be called one of the scariest famous people on the whole planet. Once he was a pretty black child but now he looks more like a pale ghost. I guess we do not have to explain everything – everybody seems to know about this fact.
The next is Melanie Griffith. There is no denying the fact that she used to be an astonishing and fresh-faced beauty, especially in the eighties, but as she has put an excessive amount of collagen on her face, her skin seems to be too tight. Some people even say that it has become impossible for her to smile. The best she is capable of is a miserable grimace.
Another ex- sensation whose appearances have changed for the worse after plastic surgery is Farrah Fawcett. She used to be the queen of the blockbuster series Charlie’s Angels and one of the most admired poster girls in the world. Now, however, after she has done something to her face, it looks distorted – with a lopsided nose and strange-looking eyes.
A black singer Lil Kim seems to be eager to follow the footsteps of Michael Jackson. She has done some surgery to become a bit whiter along with making some changes to her eyes, nose and lips. Well, she used to look emotional and hot, but now she is more like a gremlin.
And the last but not least – Kylie Minogue, who used to be the source of sex appeal. But as a result of numerous botox treatments, her tight face resembles a drum. Of course, she has no wrinkles on her forehead, but her face is too rigid and unnatural.

Twas the Night Before Liberal Christmas V.2007
June 30, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
Twas the night before Christmas and all ‘bout The House
Agendas collapsed and all the liberals did grouse!
Good word from Iraq was the news of the day,
That we could just win, caused the leftists to bay.
Upset and dumbfounded their plans were for naught,
It did not matter or replace what they taught.
Those people all were backwards but to their chagrin
Still seemed quite capable despite having dark skin.
Hillary Clinton slept while Bill paced to and fro,
He thought of three women and called them – ho ho ho.
He stood and he wondered how odd it would be -
to be back in power but as first lady.
When out on lawn there arose a great screech
Something or other about a lesson to teach!
He heard the loud sounds of a crowd that did gather,
To the window Bill flew to see what was the matter.
Below him there stood on fresh and new fallen snow,
A gaggle of moonbats that did slowly grow.
From members of Congress to nags of Code Pink,
All had come forth to tell what they did oh so “think”.
The gathering grew, and Clinton squinted to look
As among them there landed a surplus Chinook.
From it emerged a fellow who was quite a bore,
it was his old running mate – Mr. Al Gore.
“My friends,” he shouted as the crowd roar did rise,
“I just got back from collecting my Nobel peace Prize!”
A member of Greenpeace had the gall to so ask,
What ever gave Gore the right to waste so much gas.
With a cold, angry look Gore clapped with a smack,
Lead away he was, by agents dressed all in black.
“Now how dare you begin,” Al Gore hollered with glee,
“to start up this shindig and not wait up for me!”
Approached an old hippie, with deep reverence and awe,
Offered up to his savior a pad with some scrawl.
Looking it over Al spoke, “Yes, now I see.”
Then rubbed his chin thoughtfully did the former Vee Pee.
“Our leftist agenda and much power to gain,
Global Warming and Health Care - it is all so plain.”
He did turn to Bill standing hunched on the porch.
- But just in time Hillary sat up with a lurch.
All was so quiet. It was just a bad dream?
The windows were shut and not a moonbat scream.
Most thankfully of all, and this caused her to beam
the adulterer Bill was no where to be seen.
But then out from the yard a loud engine did roar
And she rushed to the window to see Mr. Gore.
With black puffs of strong smoke he revved it with glee
Oh how he did love his big black SUV.
Her cold blood did freeze and her face was all dour,
She looked like she’d sucked something that was sour.
“My word!” she exclaimed at her visit this night
And she heard Al Gore proclaim as he drove out of sight –
“Now Media, now Michael, now Harry and Teddy!
On Dennis, on John, on Obama and Cindy!
Let this message be heard - a decree of Priest Al!
We run this party … sorry to tell you old gal!”

Top 10 Freaky Creatures!
June 19, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
Most of the coolest and weirdest animals are extinct nowadays, and we look to our videogames and movies to provide us with the bizarre creatures that frighten, amaze or amuse us, but here and there around the world, there are living things which could give the most toxic of headcrabs a run for it’s money…
10: Tarsier
Tarsius syrichta
"First, train in the ways of the kendo stick, you must."
Two huge eyeballs and a bit of fur, also known as the tarsier, lives in South East Asia and has two huge eyeballs and a bit of fur. Oh, and massive fingers.
9: Leafy Sea Dragon
Phycodurus eques
Not to be confused with a seahorse which has become horribly tangled up in something, the appropriately named leafy sea dragon is, well, leafy. In fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s the leafiest sea dragon I’ve seen all week.
8: Alpaca
Vicugna pacos
What the heck is that thing anyway? This South American living identity crisis is known for it’s inability to decide if it’s a llama, camel, sheep or John McCririck.
I kid you not - I live right next to a bunch of these. The farmer apparently rented out his land to a rich guy having a mid-life crisis and every field (even the public footpath) is packed with these stupid things.
7: Promachoteuthis sulcus
It’s a squid, from deep in the south Atlantic Ocean…. With… HUMAN TEETH! No wonder they didn’t stick around long enough to give it an English name.
6: Michael Jackson
Plasticus spasticus
This beast is believed to have started out as a young, healthy pop star and changed colour, shape and species due to environmental influence.
In all seriousness though, folks, Michael Jackson was an absolute legend before he slowly turned into something worthy of this list, and it’s a shame.
5: Frilled Shark
Chlamydoselachus anguineus
Previously thought to be extinct, one of these was found alive off the coast of Japan in 2007, but didn’t live long. People were facinated by the footage of it, and somewhat freaked out by it (until they saw how much smaller it was than they all thought), but it figures that something found in Japan would resemble a deformed penis, doesn’t it?
4: Deep Sea Glass Squid
Teuthowenia pellucida
Ever played Metroid? Please tell me I’m not the only one who has terrifying visions of this thing latching onto my face.
3: Star-Nosed Mole
Condylura cristata
O RLY?
The star-nosed mole is an American mole which tends to resemble your average mole, that is if your average mole has previously snorted a firework. This thing’s nose is surrounded by freakish tentacles which, in turn, are covered in tiny receptors which are so sensitive that they allow the blind creature to, you know, feel stuff.
They can also swim, and smell underwater by snotting out bubbles and sucking them back in again.
2: Goblin Shark
Mitsukurina owstoni
Found dotted around the world, but mostly Japan (It figures…), goblin sharks are what standard sharks check under the bed for before sleeping.
1: Blobfish
Psychrolutes marcidus
Blobfish are distant relatives of the goombah which live deep in the water off the coasts down under and are rarely seen by humans outside of Doctor Who. I don’t know how these things came to be, but I like to think it involves nuclear waste, the 80s, and a low budget.
I hope you learned something in today’s little look into the natural world. I know I learned this much - it’s messed up.
Have these creatures freaked you out? Perhaps you’d like to see a doctor?

Spear, Seth C. Abero, Robert Pike Daniel, Jennifer Echols, Cheryl Francis Harrington, Cee-Cee Harshaw, Jean-Carlos Felix, Mike

First rule of thumb in courtroom dramas, most writing coaches would say, is to avoid courtroom scenes. They tend to make the action static and limit the drama that can better be explained through re-enactments and flashbacks that re-late to testimony. But this CBS mini is in the adept hands of Lawrence Schiller and writer Norman Mailer who manage to craft this story with an impeccable eye for detail and a flair for nuanced drama. Greatly
enhanced by Christopher Plummer’s Emmy-worthy turn as F. Lee Bailey, “American Tragedy” is about as good as TV gets in retelling a story where the entire audience already knows the ins, the outs and the outcome.
To a certain extent, the O.J. Simpson trial rewrote the book on how to set a compelling drama within the halls of justice; in its wake have been a series of well-received shows and films that rely on a newfound patience for and, possi-bly, a comprehension of law. Court dramas, particularly TV’s “Law & Order” and “The Practice” and the films “The Insider,” “Erin Brockovich” and “A Civil Ac-tion,” are of a considerably different tone than their
predecessors. “American Tragedy” follows a story arc not unlike that of “A Civil Action.”
Subtext of this tragedy is the battle of wits and ego as attorneys Johnnie Cochran (Ving Rhames) and Robert Shapiro (Ron Silver) evolve into publicity-craving grandstanders, hungry for positions of power in social and legal cir-cles. Shapiro starts strong and fades to the background as the story moves from the planning to the execution; Cochran grows from an aw-shucks innocent into a media-savvy bully, suggesting Shapiro gave him a stage to become a star.
Schiller stands alone as a director of screenplays based on his books, his last being the JonBenet Ramsey saga “Perfect Murder, Perfect Town.” In “American Tragedy” he takes part one to dissect the pretrial legal strategy from the first phone call placed to Shapiro up to the jurors’ tour of Simpson’s Brentwood es-tate. Part two starts with L.A. police detective Mark Fuhrman taking the stand and closes with the real Simpson mouthing
“thank you” to the jury as he stands between the superimposed fictional Cochran and Barry Scheck (Bruno Kirby).
Mini sheds little light on anything that might not have been known before, though viewers will certainly bring their own recollections to bear in judging show’s veracity. Where, for example, is Cochran donning the knit cap or Nicole Brown’s relatives or Kato Kaelin? Actual footage of the father of the murdered Ronald Goldman reminds that two people lost their lives, but the media barrage from the Goldmans and Browns that reverberated through Los Angeles seems, at most, to be background noise in these lawyers’ lives.
All views of Simpson are obscured by scenery or darkness, though his presence is felt constantly through the speaker phone. He advises his lawyers about their conduct, tactics and even diction, but mostly he exclaims “I didn’t do it” over and over and over.
The real trial brought this legal dream team into America’s homes for so long that the actors’ physical traits work for and against them. Plummer fully enve-lopes Bailey’s determination and the pride-swallowing he has to do as his tac-tics and advice are shot down by the two other big cheeses. As DNA expert Barry Scheck, Kirby benefits from a reasonably close resemblance and Kirby’s naturally squirrely acting style.
The two leads are problematic, though. Rhames is far bigger than the lean Cochran, and his presence is far more in-your-face intimidating than the real-life Cochran ever appeared to be. Cochran, from most accounts, was slick and calculated. In “American Tragedy,” he is driven by anger and blind ambition.
Silver’s Shapiro is all too familiar, his portrayal disturbingly similar to the way he played Alan Dershowitz in the pic “Reversal of Fortune” and the late concert promoter Bill Graham in the one-man stage show “Bill Graham Presents.” He handles pomposity and deviousness well — enough to make one wonder if his Shapiro portrayal isn’t the one that’s most dead-on.
Clyde Kusatsu makes for a fine Judge Ito, and Darryl Alan Reed admirably makes the most of the thankless role lawyer Carl Douglas played during the trial. Robert LuPone is constrained by the way Bob Kardashian is written — as an uncouth yes-man — and Ruben Santiago-Hudson has to play prosecutor Chris Darden as enemy to all. Diana LaMar’s Marcia Clark is effective but limited.
Technically, the pic is remarkably sharp as Schiller’s direction is clean and pointed. Editing by Peter and Katina Zinner is seamless, briskly moving the ac-tion on the first night and enhancing the collapse of the various relationships on the second. One well-done aspect is the marriage of new footage with actual cross-examination of witnesses such as Fuhrman.
Mini makes extensive use of downtown L.A. and Westside locales, from restau-rants to law offices to homes. It’s all as real as a 45 mph ride down the San Diego Freeway.
