Film Review: Bones (2001)
May 26, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
Director Ernest Dickerson got his start working along side acclaimed director Spike Lee as his go-to cinematographer before getting his big brake as director with the urban gangster film JUICE. From there he went on to do numerous urban gangster films eventually moving up to horror films with TALES FROM THE CRYPT PRESENTS DEMON KNIGHT and this little gem BONES.
All but ignored upon its 2001 theatrical release BONES was one of the few horror films featuring a predominantly African American cast in a seemingly typical ghost story. One of the things that made the film stand out is rapper Snoop Dogg’s genuine performance as Jimmy Bones in the flashback sequences. It would’ve been easy to dismiss the Bones character as a drug dealer protecting his turf from rival dealers but screenwriters Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe craft Bones as a protector of the neighborhood who is genuinely loved by the community and when he is murdered the whole city goes to shit. These flashbacks are done extremely well and drive the narrative of the film.
Where the film missteps is in presenting the Bones ghost as a vengeful spirit not only to the people that killed him (or were forced to do so) but to the younger generation trying to make a change to the neighborhood he once protected. Once the film dismisses with the flashbacks it becomes a derivative hack ‘n slash film with little driving it other than the next kill and the off-putting humor peppered throughout that wasn’t present in the first half of the film.
Along with Dogg the cast of the film includes blackploitation queen Pam Grier, Michael T. Weiss, Clifton Powell, and newcomers Bianca Lawson and Khalil Kain.

Review of the Babyface Face CD 2 Face
May 23, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
Babyface, the richly talented Pop artist has released him latest CD titled Face 2 Face and Wow! It’s really a good one.
I wish it weren’t the case but, it’s not everyday that I get a CD from an artist that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can’t force myself to get through. Not at all the case with Face 2 Face. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.
Babyface is one of those musicians that has the ability to just win you over with him talent. The kind of artist it’s really a treat to be able to listen to.
Listen and I think you’ll agree that the song choices are excellent, the production is outstanding and Babyface is clearly in top form.
While this entire CD is outstanding some of my favorites are track 2 - There She Goes, track 12 - Don’t Take It So Personal, and track 14 - Lover And Friend
My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - Outside In/Inside Out. This is a great track!

How To Record With The Right Attitude
May 20, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
After millions of dollars from the music business I am now going to give you all the secrets on how to get a record deal within a year for next to nothing!
When compared to the millions of dollars you will make through out your musical career.
So its either that your from a standpoint of you being an under ground rapper or an unsigned singer, to the point that you are ready to come out with an album or maybe you want to be a producer, manager or wanting to own your own record label, or maybe you just want to do it all.
Then we can help! Cause with over thirty years of musical experience. We are going to map out some simple step-by-step instructions.
On getting that record by creating and organizing your legal business structure, onto developing your product (which is your self/company and your music), with steps on producing your product to the masses and generating large amounts of cash flow in multiple ways, from one particular source which will lead to millions of dollars. All from doing something that you love to do.
The music business is not easy and due to the very large amounts of musical artist and entrepreneurs perusing careers in the music industry (something around 10 million people).
So now there is an extreme lack in a professional grade of artist development and therefore an artist with any sort of potential is passed on by record labels, managers and agents, etc. due to a very high risk of failure involved in breaking new artist to the masses and teaching them the ins and outs of the music business.
So with my musical experience I do know all the things that A&Rs as well as managers and agents are looking for when signing new talent. So after you having been developed and showing permanent signs of a genuine and marketable star quality. You will be ready to make large amounts of money.
Everyday the music industry is working hard looking for new talent but never really sign new artist or work with new independent labels. Want to know why?
A former recording industry executive who has worked with thousands of Recording artist, managers and record label executives over the years and have come to know all the secrets, tricks and tips (that the big record companies dont want you to know) will show you how to get rich in music.
FOCUS:
This is the way to success in the music industry. Which is to sign a record deal, and dont be fooled by some people who say that they dont need a record deal to have success this business. Only say that cause they never had any real success in the music business. Now your focus is to vision your self as a professional sports player, and the record company is a team in the league, and your record deal is your contract to play for that team. So what im basically saying is that if you are not on a team then you are not really in the game or lets just say the professional game of music.
So my job with this information is to get you prepared on all levels, by covering the necessary subjects to put you in a position of signing a record deal. Then you will be able to show off your hard earned talents to the masses by releasing an album, and as a result you will be able to get rich in music.
So for the next few sections as you read and prepare, understand that all phases will take time based on your determination to persevere.
This section is very important before you begin, because all actions that a person makes must first begin with a decision to act. So the important part about a real focus is to clearly make the right choices, even when choosing an intended goal. So we need to focus in on getting a record deal.
Even though getting a recording contract is the ultimate goal, its actually the easiest to achieve cause once you have followed all the steps in the following sections which will basically change you from an unsigned talent onto an professional recording franchise. Then you will basically have your choice of what to sign? Who to sign to? As well as how much money should you sign for?
Most artists in the truest sense of the word are narrowly focused people who never take no for an answer. No matter what challenges come along, they find a way of staying alive. More and more as the decades roll by, these artists are entrepreneurial musicians who grab a hold of the business reigns and find away to get the job done.
THE LEGAL STRUCTURE:
This first section must be thoroughly carried out cause it can come to be the difference between making a thousands of dollars from a record deal and making millions of dollars, which in turn is the exact same reason that most record companies never lose in contract negotiations with an artist, and that is based upon the legal structure that the company is built upon.
In comparison, you being a rapper or singer, you are just a person, a simple human being, which is nothing-special business wise. But then you as a person are trying to negotiate business with a record company, not the record man, but an actual company. In which the company will always out gain an individual person, and the reason for this, is that you legally have no structure to do business in comparison to a major corporation.
And all you can do is be hired by that company as an employee Now suppose that you were a company that specialized in writing and/or performing music. Then instead of being employed or basically owned by the record company. You would be able to merge with them and form a partnership instead of working for them. So now I will just go over the legal aspects needed to get you that record deal.
(Quick note) if you dont secure the business side of your music as far as incorporating, trade marking, copy writes, and publishing the record company will do it for you, but with it all registered in the companys name. As you can lose, millions on top of millions of dollars in the long run. For instance look at the snoop dog situation, back when snoop was with death row records, he went by the name snoop doggy dogg, but when he left to go to no limit he was called only snoop dogg, and that was because death row records owned the trademarks to his name, copy writes and publishing to the point that he left with nothing not even his name. And not all artists recover form this sort of mistake like snoop dogg did.

Will Smith Lost and Found Pop Music CD Review
May 9, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
Not sure what’s happening with me on this one, but it seems like the more I listen to it, the better Lost And Found gets. Lost And Found simply stated is one of Will Smith’s best CDs to date.
Refreshingly, this was one of those CDs I was able to just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.
Lost And Found has a pleasantly varied, mix of 16 tracks that are very well written songs by this clearly outstanding artist. With many of the songs displaying a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Seemingly drawing from what I can only imagine are him own real life experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions like love, and the pain of failed relationships can certainly be heard.
Lost And Found is a first rate CD, delivering a little something for everyone. I give it my highest recommendation. It’s quite simply great listening. A must buy if you’re even mildly into Pop music.
While this entire album is outstanding the truly standout tunes are track 2 - Party Starter, track 11 - Could U Love Me, and track 15 - Switch.

The Blackberry Mobile Truly Makes Doing Business Mobile
April 10, 2008 by Shadow · Comments Off
The Blackberry Mobile phone seems to everywhere these days. Better known in the US as the “crackberry” this modern day marvel is keeping people connected all over the world. I was watching television over the weekend (taking a well deserved period of “time out” and as one does on a lazy Sunday afternoons) when I found myself watching exactly the sort of mindless TV they show on Sunday afternoons for people with no hobbies - Ahem. And so it was that I found myself watching rapper Snoop Doggs reality TV show “Snoop Doggs Fatherhood” on Sky One. As I was drip fed the sort of banal TV that really makes you wonder what the world is coming too, I found myself somewhat interested to note that our Mr. Dogg (?) is actually the happy owner of a new Blackberry Curve, for it was in almost every single shot. Being involved in promoting the Business uses of the Blackberry, I was mildly interested to see that over the course of the show Mr. Dogg (?) would be constantly cuss’ing and email his “little homies” almost nonstop thanks to the technological marvel that the Blackberry is. Then having taken his entire family to Germany for the MTV awards (where he was presenting) Snoop later used his Blackberry’s built in GPS Navigation System to locate a fried chicken outlet (apparently German Sausages & Sauerkraut aren’t to his particular families taste) . When not emailing his manager he was texting on the QWERTY keyboard and utilising the “push” email technology to command control on his considerable empire (I note he is also Executive Producer).
Bored of this I channel surfed until I found “E the Entertainment Channel” where I settled on a documentary about the car crash life style of B grade starlet Lindsey Lohan. I hadn’t been watching for more than a minute, when there before me was Miss Lohan (looking decidedly worse for wear after a night out on the town) yapping away on her very own Blackberry!
What was this? I thought! Has Hollywood been taken by storm? Is anyone and everyone now using Blackberry?
So it was that I determined to channel hop until I came across another elusive Blackberry being featured in use by as star. It only took 23 Channels and a ham sandwich later before I stumbled upon a doctor texting in “Casualty” on his Blackberry Pearl.
Aha! It is a Blackberry veritable invasion of our airwaves!
It really shouldn’t come as a great surprise that the Glitteratti have finally caught on to what the Business world has now known for the last 9 months… The Blackberry is as addictive as Sunday afternoon junk TV! ??No seriously.
The Blackberry phone is truly an amazing kit of Business kit. Basically it is a pocket PC. Phone sized and convenient enough to put in your pocket - with it’s large QWERTY keypad, the Blackberry is responsible for the longest texts ever written. This is mainly due to the fact that it’s just so darn easy to type on a Blackberry. No predictive text or tapping the same button three times just to get the? letter “E”. The Blackberry key pad is a joy to use. Blackberry’s unique push email system allows you to receive email on the road and then a veritable smorgasbord of third party software solutions allows for some great Business Software Solutions. Things such as remote database access and GPS and Satellite Navigation. Checkout the UK’s largest Mobile Solutions Provider www.BusinessMobiles.com to learn more.
